The Sector

27 stations, depots, beacons and anomalies span the three regions of Starwind. This is what's on record before you fly — who runs each port and how it came to be. The deeper story you uncover in-game.

Inner Systems 9
crossgate
CrossgateFree Captains Council
StationDeep Space15°C0.3GThin

A repurposed traffic-control hub bristling with comm antennae at the intersection of three trade lanes. Three hundred captains call it home port. No taxes, no questions.

The Free Captains Council grew it from an old nav relay into a maze of cargo brokers, shipwrights, and credit sharks. Dockmaster Zola Vex — officially 'Traffic Coordinator' — decides who lands, who trades, and who gets towed into the nearest star.

vanguard_relay
Vanguard RelayFree Captains Council
DepotDeep Space-40°C0.1GNone

A deep-space comms relay turned Council supply depot. The last stop before the long haul to the Core Worlds.

The Council seized Vanguard when the Core Worlds Authority decommissioned it in 2316. Now it serves as a critical fuel stop and cargo staging point for captains running the Core Worlds trade lane.

deep_shaft
Deep ShaftFrontier Miners Union
OutpostAsteroid-15°C0.02GNone

A vertical mining shaft bored three kilometres into asteroid X-901. Rich veins of rare minerals, constant seismic tremors.

Discovered in 2318 by a Union prospector who nearly flew into the asteroid during a nav-system failure. The vein turned out to be one of the richest in the sector.

ironhold
IronholdFrontier Miners Union
OutpostAsteroid-10°C0.05GNone

A squat, armoured platform anchored to nickel-iron asteroid K-227. Drone swarms carve spiralling tunnels while magnetic separators sort ore by purity. The Union has called it temporary for twenty years.

Dropped here in 2310 as 'an extended prospecting operation'; the veins still haven't run dry. Foreman Kael Drummond — third-generation miner with one steel eye — distrusts corporations, and the automated defence grid doesn't distinguish them from pirates.

amberlight
AmberlightHalcyon Agri-Guild
StationTerrestrial24°C1GBreathable

A small orbital greenhouse complex bathed in amber grow-lights — the sector's unofficial starter system, where new captains run their first hauling contracts in safe, short lanes.

Established in 2326 as a Guild training facility for zero-G cultivation, it became the gateway for newly-licensed captains. Guild Warden Mira Tannen is known for patience with nervous newcomers and zero tolerance for anyone who preys on them.

dome_five
Dome 5Halcyon Agri-Guild
DerelictOrbital22°C0.9GBreathable

The sealed fifth dome of Verdant Station — dark, off-limits, and officially a 'research biome.' Competitors whisper about proprietary gene-mod crops. Nobody quite believes the Guild.

No unauthorised personnel have entered Dome 5 since 2318. The Guild patrols the access corridor at all hours and offers no explanation beyond 'proprietary research.'

harvest
HarvestHalcyon Agri-Guild
OutpostTerrestrial20°C1.1GBreathable

A sterile expanse of automated hydroponic bays stretching twelve square kilometres. Forty thousand robotic harvesters work without pause; eight human technicians oversee them all.

Built by Omni-Harvest Corp in 2310 on one radical principle — remove humans from agriculture. It outproduces every other ag station threefold. Traders may buy, but must not tamper with the automation or ask the technicians about working conditions.

sunspire
SunspireHalcyon Agri-Guild
StationOrbital28°C0.6GThin

A hundred-storey vertical farm rising from an orbital platform like a glass cathedral. A photovoltaic membrane tunes the star's light to each crop tier — orchids low, potatoes forty floors up, medicinal herbs near the top.

The Guild's most efficient food facility — no soil, no seasons, no pests, just light and profit. Guild Factor Eko Vance keeps meticulous records of every shipment: what each captain is carrying, and what they should be carrying instead.

verdant
Verdant StationHalcyon Agri-Guild
StationOrbital22°C0.9GBreathable

Five geodesic domes glowing emerald in orbit around a G-class star, growing 60% of the food consumed within fifty light-years. The Guild asks no questions about Dome 5.

Run by the Halcyon Agri-Guild since 2295, when it took over a Senate food reserve. Agriarch Soren Halcyon is rarely seen, communicating through intermediaries from a secluded arboretum in Dome 1. No biological sample leaves without Guild authorisation.

Outer Rim 10
reddock
ReddockFree Captains Council
OutpostDebris Field-200°C0GNone

A rust-streaked free port in the hollowed-out shell of an abandoned corporate refinery. The motto painted across the main docking bay: BRING CASH. NO QUESTIONS.

When CoreStar Mining abandoned the K-312 refinery in 2320, squatters moved in within a month; within a year it was a thriving unregulated port. Dockmaster Petra Sokol runs it with charm, credible threats, and a ledger that forgets nothing.

rustport
RustportFree Captains Council
DepotAsteroid60°C0.1GNone

A sprawling scrap-metal town welded into the carcass of the ISS Indomitable, a half-kilometre military dreadnought. Every surface is rust; every transaction is cash.

The Indomitable was scuttled at the Battle of Tharsis Gap in 2264. Salvagers hollowed out its hull and built a black-market economy inside. A council of seven salvage captains rules from the old war room — and nobody insults the ship.

frostwell
Frostwell DeepFrontier Miners Union
OutpostIce World-85°C0.8GThin

An ice-mining platform sunk deep into the frozen crust of planetoid K-441. Beyond water and ice, its glaciers hide rare Frostwell crystals found nowhere else.

The crystals keep a molecular structure that degrades at any warmer temperature, so the Union guards the extraction technique jealously. Miners work 14-hour shifts at -40°C for water that flows year-round and crystals worth ten times the ore.

jovian_post
Jovian PostFrontier Miners Union
DepotGas Giant Orbit-145°C2.4GToxic

A fuel-skimming platform in low orbit around a gas giant. Harvests hydrogen and helium-3 from the upper atmosphere.

Built by a consortium of fuel traders in 2305, then abandoned when the prices crashed. The Union refurbished it in 2322 as a refueling depot for Outer Rim traffic.

nova_reach
Nova ReachFrontier Miners Union
OutpostBarren-30°C0.3GThin

A ramshackle mining outpost clinging to the shattered remains of the Astraea moon. Insular and superstitious, its miners speak in hushed tones of the 'Ghost of Astraea.'

After the 2287 cataclysm scattered Astraea's mineral-rich rock across the Rim, forty-seven prospectors pooled their claims here. A debris-storm shredded the seals that first winter; twelve survived, saved by Elara Vance's brutal rationing. Her descendants still run Nova Reach.

tharsis_gap
Tharsis GapFrontier Miners Union
DepotRogue World-220°C0.4GToxic

A ghost station on a rogue world drifting between stars. Automated cargo racks and a Union claims office. Nobody lives here.

Site of the 2264 Battle of Tharsis Gap, where the dreadnought Indomitable was crippled and scuttled — her hulk drifted for decades before becoming Rustport. The Union later built an automated depot here, at the nexus of three claim boundaries.

the_crucible
The CrucibleFrontier Miners Union
StationAsteroid Belt480°C0.01GNone

A perpetual-motion refinery drifting through the densest asteroid belt in the sector, plasma furnaces glowing orange through the haze. The deck plates never stop vibrating.

Launched in 2301 to bring smelting to the ore rather than ship raw rock across the system; its engines have run without stopping ever since. Chief Engineer Kael sleeps beside the drive core — if it fails, the station drifts into the belt within six hours.

astraea_memorial
Astraea MemorialUnaligned
BeaconDebris Field-270°C0GNone

A navigation beacon anchored at the edge of the Astraea debris field. The memorial lists the names of 847 miners lost when the Astraea moon collapsed in 2287.

The Astraea disaster of 2287 scattered the moon across the Outer Rim and gave the Frontier Miners Union its name. The Union erected this beacon as both memorial and navigational warning. Every Union captain salutes it on approach.

drift_signal
Drift SignalUnaligned
AnomalyRogue World-260°C0.2GNone

An automated distress beacon transmitting on a frequency that doesn't exist. It's been broadcasting for at least forty years.

First detected in 2285. The signal pattern repeats every 7.2 seconds, corresponding to no known distress protocol. Two investigation teams reported hearing voices in the static.

frost_line_beacon
Frost Line BeaconUnaligned
BeaconDeep Space-273°C0GNone

The sector's outermost navigation beacon. Beyond this point, star charts become estimates. Few ships pass this way, and fewer return.

Deployed in 2260 as the first marker of the Outer Rim expansion. Its transmitter is decades old and frequently fails. The Union patches it up when they remember.

Core Worlds 8
caliban_crevasse
Caliban CrevasseCore Worlds Authority
DerelictIce World-140°C1.2GCorrosive

A derelict vessel at the bottom of a kilometre-deep crevasse, at least 300 years old. Its hull material doesn't match any known alloy. Its drive core is still faintly warm.

Found in 2295 by the survey team that first charted Caliban, deep beneath the ice that Meridian now towers over. The vessel predates all known colonial records. The Authority maintains a permanent research team at the site.

meridian
MeridianCore Worlds Authority
StationOrbital18°C0.8GBreathable

A spire of black glass rising twelve kilometres from the frozen surface of Caliban. Geothermal vents power cryo-manufacturing that demands near-absolute-zero cold.

Penthouse suites overlook absolute darkness at the summit; eight hundred workers run 18-hour shifts in the subterranean warrens below, barred from the upper levels. Few stay longer than two years. The foundries turn out the sector's most advanced processors.

nexus_core
Nexus CoreCore Worlds Authority
HubOrbital20°C1GBreathable

A gleaming torus of glass and chrome above the sector's busiest trade lane. Automated customs gates, a hundred floors of bureaucracy, and the headquarters of seventeen major corporations. Everything runs on time.

The Authority's seat of power since the Commerce Exchange came online in 2281 — home to the High Court and the Sector Senate, and the source of every trade license in the sector. Outer Rim captains are useful as partners, unwelcome in the executive lounges.

nullgate
NullgateCore Worlds Authority
StationDeep Space-270°C0GNone

A black monolith spinning in perfect silence at the edge of charted space. Docking is invitation-only, and a persistent low-frequency hum emanates from its core.

Commissioned in 2332 under an official brief of 'deep-space propulsion research.' The unofficial story — that the Authority is reverse-engineering a derelict found beyond the sector boundary — is one nobody with clearance will confirm. Captains who have been inside don't talk about it.

nursery_ruins
Nursery RuinsCore Worlds Authority
DerelictBarren-40°C0.5GToxic

The remains of a terraforming seed-nursery, abandoned mid-operation. Seedlings still grow in the cracked biodomes, twisted by decades of radiation exposure.

The Authority commissioned the Nursery in 2312 as part of a grand terraforming initiative. The project was abandoned after five years — officially due to budget cuts.

penumbra
PenumbraCore Worlds Authority
StationDead Star Orbit5°C0.05GThin

A research station orbiting a white dwarf. Scientists run materials experiments in the extreme gravity gradient. Their quartermaster pays top credit for high-end electronics.

Penumbra was established in 2300 as a pure research facility. When the Authority realised how much imported equipment the scientists burned through, they opened limited trade rights.

voidwake_object
Voidwake ObjectCore Worlds Authority
AnomalyDead Star Orbit-260°C0GNone

An unclassified object in orbit around a collapsed neutron star. A perfect dodecahedron, 340 metres across, reflecting no light. It moves against the star's rotation.

The Voidwake Object was first detected in 2318. The Authority classified it immediately and has denied all requests for independent study.

wayfarer
Wayfarer's RestFree Captains Council
StationDeep Space10°C0.4GThin

The only true free port in the sector — a chaotic bazaar of neon signs, makeshift docking arms, and repurposed sensor arrays. Anything can be bought or sold here.

A former military listening post, decommissioned in 2315 and bought at auction by Mael Kovac. One rule, carved above the concourse by Kovac himself: NO DEBTS CARRIED OVERNIGHT — every account settles at midnight station-time.
